A week has passed very quickly and Sunday morning we leave Olon for Cuenca. It is another pleasant morning. Although we will miss Olon we look forward to exploring Cuenca. Patricio arrives a few minutes before 8 AM in his white people-mover. A few minutes later Miryam, the caretaker of the Olon home pulls up to the house. Everything checks out great. We stack our bags in the back, climb into the people mover and leave Olon by 8:20 AM.
The only reasonable way to get from Olon to Cuenca is to go back the route we originally took from the airport in Guayaquil, and then head south east to Cuenca vie E582. I enjoy watching the ocean and observing the small towns dotting the coast. San Pablo is interesting, with perhaps 200 small fishing boats lining it's beach.

E582 outside of Guayaquil takes us through the Cajas mountains. The western side of the ride is very foggy and rainy. At times it is difficult to see 15 feet in front of us. After stopping for a quick typical Ecuadorian lunch the weather begins to improve. On the eastern portion of our drive we are able to see the beautiful mountains with their streams, lakes and small waterfalls. We arrive in Cuenca around 2:30 pm.
The condo is on the third and fourth floors of a small building. The condo is very nice, and we are greeted with a vase of 18 roses on the dining room table as well as chocolate croissants. A warming touch!
